Director Michelle DePass Says Welcome Back

Welcome to the 2016–2017 academic year! I hope you had an enjoyable summer and are as energized as I am about the year ahead. Here at the Tishman Environment and Design Center we had an exciting summer working with our Visiting Scholars to release white papers and host webinars on the social justice implications of the U.S. EPA's Clean Power Plan (you can read more about this below). We've also been working hard preparing for the school year. The Tishman Center is the university-wide hub for all things sustainability-related, and a research center focused on the integration of bold design, policy, and social justice approaches to environmental issues. By now you may have seen our new Sustainability Wayforming maps posted around campus. We will be sharing additional information about each of The New School's sustainability resources throughout the semester. Be sure to follow us on twitter and check our blog for the latest updates.Last April the Tishman Center awarded seven Faculty Grants and three Student Scholars positions. We are looking forward to sharing updates on their projects throughout the year, and we encourage you to consider applying for the next round of awards! We'll be sending this weekly newsletter to keep you updated on the latest faculty and student research and projects, campus sustainability news, upcoming events, and other opportunities to get involved with sustainability and environmental justice initiatives at The New School. Please invite your friends and colleagues to join our mailing list. If you have news or research to share, please email us at tedc@newschool.edu.I wish you a great start to the school year, and I look forward to working and learning together this year!-Michelle DePassDirector, Tishman Environment and Design CenterDean, Milano School of International Affairs, Management, and Urban PolicyTishman Professor of Environmental Policy and Management
