Parsons Professor Barent Roth to Speak at 2017 Plastic Pollution Summit

Parsons Professor Barent Roth will be speaking at the South Carolina Aquarium 2017 Plastic Pollution Summit.

The South Carolina Aquarium is collaborating with 5 Gyres Institute and the Lonely Whale Foundation to host Breaking Down Plastic, a one-day summit being held March 30, 2017, in Charleston, South Carolina. The summit partners represent local, national, and international interests among corporations, educational and research institutions, policymakers, and consumers eager to engage in addressing the plastic pollution challenge. The solution-oriented discussions will align efforts and highlight shared commitments, bringing a diverse group of powerful participants to the table, while our collective voice will build awareness and motivate action to advance responsible production, consumption, and disposal of plastic at all levels.Barent Roth is a designer and educator dedicated to sustainable products, practices, and services. Co-founder of the award winning sustainable to restorative design firm grow-design, creator of the LA Green Drinks network, and former Executive Director of Sustainable Works, he now teaches courses on sustainable design at Parsons, The New School in New York City while independently designing sustainable solutions such as:

• BikeShare Helmet design won the 2016 Cradle to Cradle Product Design Challenge for Best Professional Project.• Founder of the TestingOurWaters.net project aimed at proliferating citizen science trawls for identifying sources of marine plastic pollution.

Professor Roth will also be presenting his TestingOurWaters.net project at The New School's Earth Week event, Going Beyond "Green."
